Dress MEi Up!

funny Mei

Dear Meimei, The title of this post came from Diane’s suggestion.  We haven’t met her in person yet, but she’s one of your FANS, haha  So when I post your photos when I drew on your face, she suggested this title, which I think perfectly fits this blog as well. Here’s what I’ve written in my Facebook album description: All the photos in this album were taken in just 1 day (May 31)… and here’s the story: Meimei saw me “drawing” on my eyebrows and she also asked for me to draw on her face my original plan was to make her look FUNNY, like a clown or something… but then due to limited HYPO-ALLERGENIC MAKE-UP COLORS, it didn’t turn out the way I hoped… that’s why her EYEBROWS were “altered”… after my so-called DRAWING, I asked her if she wanted to put on my clothes and yes, she did! … Continue reading

Meimei Can Read and Sign!

I am a believer of early literacy (teaching the kids at an early age)… My first born knew his letters and numbers when he was only 1 year old (thanks to Brainy Baby). Sadly I didn’t take videos of him reciting them because at that time, I thought it was normal for kids to know their alphabets and numbers at that age He was also able to say or call out the people at home including our staffs. At 14 months, I was able to find a video of EJ saying, “SHOOT THAT BALL”. When my husband and I went on our trip to laguna last June, I saw the “Your Baby Can Read” promotional video in one of the cable stations there. It really got my attention and I became interested in the concept and the product. However, it costs $200 so I told my husband we’ll think about … Continue reading

Date with Dad

I am a believer of DATES and if you’ve been reading my blogs or you’re close to me, you know that I date my kiddos and I also date my husband. But now I’ll blog about the date of the king and princess in our household. Since Meimei was 5 months in my tummy she was already separated from his dad. We stayed in Bacolod for over a year and Joey comes home almost every 2 months then to be with us. But last July the kids and I moved to China and be with their dad. Joey’s been “courting” Meimei. He did a wonderful job the past months building that relationship with Meimei, however, her attachment to me is so strong and she would usually cling to me more. When yaya Angel, our nanny went back to Bacolod, Joey was able to spend more time with Meimei like giving … Continue reading

Autumn Diarrhea

Last week my daughter had diarrhea and it lasted for several days. It started Sunday afternoon but got really worse at night until Tuesday morning so we went to the hospital to have her checked. When the doctor saw her watery stool advised me to have her admitted for IV to prevent her from getting dehydrated, even if the stool test showed there wasn’t any bacteria. Of course I declined and she made me sign a waiver that says I refused her wise counsel for hospitalization, to make sure they won’t be blamed if something happens to Meimei. She gave us oral medication instead. The doctor also mentioned that during this seasons, which is Autumn, it’s very common for children to have diarrhea and it might be dangerous if it won’t stop. “So what if it’s Autumn? What made diarrhea so common this season?”, I thought. When we got home I asked Mr. Google and here’s the answer: AUTUMN … Continue reading

18 Wonderful Months

Dear Meimei, In my Facebook profile my status was: “ Thank you Lord for 18 wonderful and blessed months…” Yes my little one, you’re 18 months old today and the past months have truly been wonderful and full of God’s blessings. They weren’t perfect months but in every difficulty or mishaps, God has always shown HIS favor and HE has never left us. Allow me to share with you what took place today: Our day started as the usual weekend – woke up late because we slept late the other night. Had crab and shrimp for lunch (for the three of us) and yours were broccoli and pork After lunch you asked for “Titi” (mama’s milk) and of course, fell asleep after that… Both of us did actually. Your papa and ahia however spent the whole afternoon cleaning the aquarium as your papa wanted to give you FISHY for your gift! … Continue reading

Night Schedule Revised

My previous blog about our life here in China entitled DAYS OF OUR WEEK,  I mentioned that we have different bedtime schedule and that defines who sleeps with who and in which room. After a month, we decided to have them changed due to factors like school is about to open and EJ has to sleep early, the bed is too small to fit the 4 of us (that’s because Joey gets half the space and the 3 of us share the other half!), and if super tired, my ears cannot tolerate Joey and EJ snoring at the same time! So we, EJ and I, did a draft one afternoon and had his papa approved it. So here’s the revised schedule: Monday and Tuesday – Meimei with Mama and Papa ; EJ in his room Wednesday – Papa’s night off (would you believe that! he has his OWN night off! … Continue reading

HAPPY BIRTHDAY My ColorKiddo…

Dear Meimei, A year ago, April 16, 2009 at 4:44pm I heard your very first cry… I welcomed you to this world by saying these words the very first time I saw you: KAY JOEY GYAPUN ILONG!!! (Still Joey’s Nose!!!)  :) When you’re old enough to read this, just ask me or your papa WHY those where my first words when I saw you for the very first time! (ahihihihi) A few hours later your tita Doc Tett went inside my room and told me that you were healthy except for a small problem… that you had imperforate anus. A lot of my friends asked me what was my first reaction and probably you’ll also wonder when you grow up… I didn’t cry nor did I panic. All I asked was, “So what’s the solution?” Tita Doc then discussed words like you may need colostomy and many other things which … Continue reading

3 / 3 It Is Finished!

Dear Meimei, Last February 15, 2010 at 7:30am at the Riverside Medical Center you went through with your 3rd and final operation – Colostomy Closure. Just like you PSARP, I am blogging about it to give you and our loved ones a glimpse of what took place at the hospital. So read on sweety… February 12 at 6pm we were already in the hospital and it was a painless day because we were just there to make sure we have the room reserved. You were so amazed at this ”new place” and with no idea what will happen in the days ahead… Today you started with your liquid only diet in preparation for your OR.   February 13 – 14  Doc Mic did your irrigation as part of the pre-op preparations. You also had theblood tests, skin test and IV insertions on the 14th… Each time you cried but the moment I hugged … Continue reading

DATING MY KING

Dear Meimei, I know this is too early for me to write about this issue but this is something that I want to pass on to you and let you understand as early as now… Hoping that someday, when you’re grown up and finally decide to have a family, this is one principle you will apply from the day you exchange vows ’til the day heaven calls you or your partner home. We are an OFW family (Overseas Filipino Workers) and with that, we live a different life compared to families who live together. Your Pa and I spend a lot of times apart from each other so it takes extra effort to keep our love for each other alive and keep communication lines open. Most nights, like right now, when you and your ahia are asleep, I make time to chat with your papa. It’s not really like we chat the whole time, sometimes I just send … Continue reading

MEIMEI meets JE-AN

***For those of you who don’t know Je-An, please read my post about him HERE before you read this post Thanks.*** Baby Je-An had his check up last week and according to his mom, he weighs 3.3Kls (6.6lbs). They came over our house after his check up to submit the requirements that a family friend asked from them so that he can help Je-An have his open heart surgery sponsored by their organization / foundation as they are actively involved in helping the less fortunate. God Bless them! It is still for approval so I am asking you to help pray that all will be well and that the decision will be in favor of the baby. I am also currently emailing our yahoogroup members ( http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/colorectal_parents_philippines/) for some help if ever Je-An and his mom goes to PGH for the surgery.   As mentioned in my SHARE YOUR BLESSING post, there are 3 … Continue reading

Singko De Noviembre

Dear Meimei, Today is a special day (holiday for the Philippines) because it’s Singko De Noviembre. But to me, this day is special because it’s been a month since your PSARP surgery. I can’t thank God enough for a successful operation. So let me give you a picture of YOU today. You woke up at around 8am and as always, was excited for your bottomless mama’s milk Then your ahia EJ and I went out for our breakfast. After my breakfast I gave you a bath. After bath time was time for our dilation. You are currently transitioning from a size 9 to a size 10 Hegar Dilator. 3 of us did it – Manang Salvie (holding your legs), Yaya Angel (holding your upper body) and Moi (dilating). You were so strong and we really had a hard time. You cried angrily (who wouldn’t?!!) but we still had to do it. When we finished … Continue reading

ONE STEP CLOSER…

Dear Meimei, As I was holding you this evening, I realized it’s been a 5 months and 6 days since I heard your first cry… I still recall the very first time I saw you in the delivery room when the nurse brought you to me, I blurted out that you had your papa’s nose – which made the nurses smile. After several hours, your pedia, Dra. Tett went to my room and told me that the other parts of your body were all normal except for one thing – you have a birth defect known as imperforate anus. I didn’t cry nor did I feel hopeless. I knew deep down in my heart that God is in control, He cares for you more than I do and that your name, Elizabeth Joy means God’s Promise of JOY - nothing can change that. April 18 your papa came home and you had your first operation – you needed … Continue reading

LOVE LETTERS TO E.J.

My husband and I agreed that from time to time, we will write letters to our children so that someday, they have something to guide and encourage them when they need it. We can’t and we won’t be with them all the time, but with these letters, it’s as if we’re beside them. From these letters they’ll know how much we love them, what we value the most, what we pray for, what our principles are, who we are and what we, as parents, hope to impart to them that they too can impart to their children. We will categorize these types of blogs as LOVE LETTERS TO E.J. because truly, all our letters will be written because we love them. All our children have the initial E.J. Elisha Joey (Elisha or EJ) our son and Elizabeth Joy (Meimei) our daughter. If a third child comes, for sure his or her initial will still be E.J. … Continue reading

KNOW SOMEONE WITH IMPERFORATE ANUS?

SHE WRITES:   It’s been almost 4 months since my last post so allow me to give you an update… I already gave birth to a very pretty baby girl and we call her “Meimei” which mean little sister in Chinese. Everything is well except that she has imperforate anus. As wikipedia puts it: “An imperforate anus or anal atresia is a birth defect in which the rectum is malformed. Its cause is unknown.” Right now Meimei has colostomy – considered as the first operation. The second operation that will take place sometime in October will be for the “making” of the rectum and the third operation will be the closure of the colostomy after about another 4-6 months. For the duration of about 1 year and 6 months, we (EJ, Meimei and I) will stay here in the Philippines while my husband stays in China (but he’ll be … Continue reading

DO YOU LIKE YOUR NAME?

SHE WRITES:Yes I do – I like all my names. My real name is Elizabeth Rose, my nickname is Maricar and my Chinese name is Meili. Different groups call me differently – my classmates call me by my real name; my family, relatives, church and workmates call me by my nickname; and in the blogging world and to some Chinese friends I use my Chinese name (because they can’t pronounce my other names). However, I have friends who literally despise the sound of their real names so they came up with another one for people around to use when referring to them and the only time they use their real names is when they need to sign legal papers or documents. I also came across this site What Not to Name Your Baby and the blogger lists down some of the unheard names – at least for me. Reading his … Continue reading
