Dear Meimei, Yippe! You’re officially in the “tiny tot” age! And what does that mean?  Some people describe it as a terrible two stage, and there’s even a website labeled terribletwos! But that’s not how I look at you sweety pie.  Even with your ahia, I can honestly say he was never terrible as what those websites declare.  It was even a big time for him to adjust because we moved to China when he was 23 months… yet in spite the new environment, your papa and I didn’t have problems with him.  Yes we did have difficult times, but hey, even us adults have those days we don’t feel good and we just want to be ourselves or even do “not so nice things”, but that doesn’t mean we’re TERRIBLE…  So when you become a mom someday, never label your kids terrible two ok?  It’s a matter of perspective … Continue reading →

Dear Meimei, A year ago, April 16, 2009 at 4:44pm I heard your very first cry… I welcomed you to this world by saying these words the very first time I saw you: KAY JOEY GYAPUN ILONG!!! (Still Joey’s Nose!!!)  :) When you’re old enough to read this, just ask me or your papa WHY those where my first words when I saw you for the very first time! (ahihihihi) A few hours later your tita Doc Tett went inside my room and told me that you were healthy except for a small problem… that you had imperforate anus. A lot of my friends asked me what was my first reaction and probably you’ll also wonder when you grow up… I didn’t cry nor did I panic. BABY JE-AN IN MANILA

First of all, I would like to thank family, friends and even strangers for sending help for Baby Jeff Andrei Las Pinas (Je-An). May the Lord bless your kindness to this kiddo. They went to the Philippine Heart Center last Monday and the poor boy had to undergo several testings such as blood tests, urine, 2d echo and many others to find out if he can go through the temporary repair. Unfortunately, the doctors concluded based on the test results that right now, he cannot because of the following reasons: 1. he is way below under weight so he has to gain a little more… they are asking that he should at least be able to take 3oz of milk each time, however, the most he can take was 2oz. PLEASE Pray for Baby Je-An

This afternoon, my friend Ruby and I with my kids went to baby Je-An’s house to say goodbye and bless him before he leaves for Manila tomorrow night. Je-An and his mom, lolo and lola will travel to Manila by boat because his pedia cardiologist (Dr. Franco) won’t give him clearance to ride the airplane as it is too dangerous for his condition. They will leave Bacolod around 9pm tomorrow night and will be arriving Manila about 10pm Sunday night. Analyn, Je-An’s mom, has an uncle who drives a taxi will pick them up and bring them somewhere (they still don’t know where they can spend the night). Monday morning they’re hoping to be admitted in the Philippine Heart Center. Initial estimates of Je-An’s expenses will reach at least P200,000 ( approx. $ 4,200) which covers for Pulmonary Artery Catether and Pulmonary Artery Banding. Update on Baby Je-An

Jeff Andrei Las Pinas, the child that I blogged about several months back, is now 9 months old. Baby Je-An has congenital heart and disease and imperforate anus. When he was born, his doctor adviced his parents to make sure that he can have his heart surgery before he reaches 1 year old. Due to lack of finances, he wasn’t able to have the heart surgery the past months. However, he has been having frequent attacks of congestion and as his grandmother told me, sometimes his breathing stops. Last night Je-An’s mom didn’t sleep well because from time to time she’d wake up to see how her son’s breathing pattern was. They were told that JeAn can’t wait any longer. The operation has to take place as soon as possible which means next week. Dear Meimei, Last February 15, 2010 at 7:30am at the Riverside Medical Center you went through with your 3rd and final operation – Colostomy Closure. Just like you PSARP, I am blogging about it to give you and our loved ones a glimpse of what took place at the hospital. So read on sweety… February 12 at 6pm we were already in the hospital and it was a painless day because we were just there to make sure we have the room reserved. You were so amazed at this ”new place” and with no idea what will happen in the days ahead… Today you started with your liquid only diet in preparation for your OR.   February 13 – 14  Doc Mic did your irrigation as part of the pre-op preparations. MEIMEI meets JE-AN

***For those of you who don’t know Je-An, please read my post about him HERE before you read this post Thanks.*** Baby Je-An had his check up last week and according to his mom, he weighs 3.3Kls (6.6lbs). They came over our house after his check up to submit the requirements that a family friend asked from them so that he can help Je-An have his open heart surgery sponsored by their organization / foundation as they are actively involved in helping the less fortunate. God Bless them! It is still for approval so I am asking you to help pray that all will be well and that the decision will be in favor of the baby. SHARE YOUR BLESSING

This afternoon my friend Cindy and I went to visit a baby boy named Jeff Andrei Las Pinas. My heart was moved when I saw him… Like Meimei, he too has imperforate anus (read my post if you don’t know what it is). The sad thing about it is little Je-An has congenital heart disease – a hole in his heart and biventricular enlargement. Like Meimei too, Je-An has colostomy, however, he can’t proceed with the 2nd operation (PSARP Surgery) unless his heart goes through an open heart surgery. He has difficulty in breathing – as in gasping for air. At the age of 5 months, he can only consume a maximum of 2 oz every 2-3hrs or else he may experience more difficulty in breathing. Unless his heart is repaired, baby Je-An won’t grow… At 5 months, he is still wearing his new born clothes because he only weighs about 5 – 6lbs. Singko De Noviembre

Dear Meimei, Today is a special day (holiday for the Philippines) because it’s Singko De Noviembre. But to me, this day is special because it’s been a month since your PSARP surgery. I can’t thank God enough for a successful operation. So let me give you a picture of YOU today. You woke up at around 8am and as always, was excited for your bottomless mama’s milk Then your ahia EJ and I went out for our breakfast. After my breakfast I gave you a bath. After bath time was time for our dilation. You are currently transitioning from a size 9 to a size 10 Hegar Dilator. 3 of us did it – Manang Salvie (holding your legs), Yaya Angel (holding your upper body) and Moi (dilating). Dear Meimei, Last October 5, 2009 at 7:30am at the Riverside Medical Center you went through with your 2nd operation – the PSARP (Posterior Sagittal AnoRectoPlasty – the surgery required to create an anus). To give you and our loved ones a glimpse of what took place at the hospital I decided to blog about it. So read on darling… October 4 at 3pm we were already in the hospital because there were laboratory tests performed. You were tortured 3 times: (1) blood sample for blood typing and other tests (2) skin test for the antibiotic that was used for your IV (3) IV – your pediatrician, Dra. Geolingo decided to have your IV that night because your potassium content was 1 point lower than the specification so it needed to be corrected prior to surgery Of course you cried really loud 3 times also and there was even that look in … Continue reading →

Dear Meimei, As I was holding you this evening, I realized it’s been a 5 months and 6 days since I heard your first cry… I still recall the very first time I saw you in the delivery room when the nurse brought you to me, I blurted out that you had your papa’s nose – which made the nurses smile. After several hours, your pedia, Dra. Tett went to my room and told me that the other parts of your body were all normal except for one thing – you have a birth defect known as imperforate anus. I didn’t cry nor did I feel hopeless. I knew deep down in my heart that God is in control, He cares for you more than I do and that your name, Elizabeth Joy means God’s Promise of JOY - nothing can change that. KNOW SOMEONE WITH IMPERFORATE ANUS?

  SHE WRITES:   It’s been almost 4 months since my last post so allow me to give you an update… I already gave birth to a very pretty baby girl and we call her “Meimei” which mean little sister in Chinese. Everything is well except that she has imperforate anus. As wikipedia puts it: “An imperforate anus or anal atresia is a birth defect in which the rectum is malformed. Its cause is unknown.” Right now Meimei has colostomy – considered as the first operation. The second operation that will take place sometime in October will be for the “making” of the rectum and the third operation will be the closure of the colostomy after about another 4-6 months.
