Autumn Diarrhea

Last week my daughter had diarrhea and it lasted for several days. It started Sunday afternoon but got really worse at night until Tuesday morning so we went to the hospital to have her checked. When the doctor saw her watery stool advised me to have her admitted for IV to prevent her from getting dehydrated, even if the stool test showed there wasn’t any bacteria. Of course I declined and she made me sign a waiver that says I refused her wise counsel for hospitalization, to make sure they won’t be blamed if something happens to Meimei. She gave us oral medication instead. The doctor also mentioned that during this seasons, which is Autumn, it’s very common for children to have diarrhea and it might be dangerous if it won’t stop. “So what if it’s Autumn? What made diarrhea so common this season?”, I thought. When we got home I asked Mr. Google and here’s the answer: AUTUMN … Continue reading

Life Worth Remembering

Last October 24, 2008 I posted my very first article in my Life Worth Remembering blog. Here’s a copy of that post. The ones in blue fonts are new additions. “I will make my MARK in this generation. I will impact people around me. I will make a difference.” “You’re not everyone, but you are one You may not do everything, but you can do something” “You may be a stay at home mom, and you’re calling is to raise a child that may influence millions” “A 100 years from now, will it be any significant that I lived on this planet? Make it a goal to leave this earth better of than before you came in.” These are some of the thoughts that I picked up while listening to Joel Osteen’s preaching one Sunday regarding “Living a Life Worth Remembering.” The message struck me and it made me realize … Continue reading

Night Schedule Revised

My previous blog about our life here in China entitled DAYS OF OUR WEEK,  I mentioned that we have different bedtime schedule and that defines who sleeps with who and in which room. After a month, we decided to have them changed due to factors like school is about to open and EJ has to sleep early, the bed is too small to fit the 4 of us (that’s because Joey gets half the space and the 3 of us share the other half!), and if super tired, my ears cannot tolerate Joey and EJ snoring at the same time! So we, EJ and I, did a draft one afternoon and had his papa approved it. So here’s the revised schedule: Monday and Tuesday – Meimei with Mama and Papa ; EJ in his room Wednesday – Papa’s night off (would you believe that! he has his OWN night off! … Continue reading

Days of Our Week

It’s officially our one week and a few hours stay here in China so allow me to share with you how things were. As many of you know, yaya Angel is here with us so we divided the work loads. She took charge cleaning almost all the dusty areas because i’m extraordinarily allergic to dust. When she’s done cleaning, I do the arranging or re-arranging. I did all the cooking for lunch and dinner. From the grocery, preparations and cooking itself. Beakfast is simple – bread, cereal, milk or fruit. We take turns in taking care of the kids and washing the clothes. The ironing we leave to Ayi, our local helper who works only on Sundays. We maintain her just so we have someone to contact incase we need some stuff that are not available in the market and of course, my ever supportive hubby wants me to have … Continue reading

Honoring WilMar

I am writing this blog to thank my husband’s parents – Papa Wil and Mama Mary In my blog post WIVES SUBMIT TO YOUR HUSBAND I already mentioned of how grateful I was back in 2005 til 2007 when I stayed with my in-laws while my husband was away. Now, I will write specifically to honor Ma and Pa for the 2nd time around we (EJ, Meimei and myself) lived with them. January 2009 Joey and I once again decided to go back to the Philippines so I can give birth there and as initially planned, be back in China by August of the same year. However, my baby girl had Imperforate Anus and so our stay with my in-laws was extended until July 2010. I’ve always been close with Ma and Pa, oh, at least that’s what I want to believe Sure there had been times we disagreed in disciplines, principles and opinions. But … Continue reading

Wives, Submit to Your Husband as to the Lord

note: blog written October 29, 2008 in LIFE WORTH REMEMBERING. Blue fonts are latest additions. March 3, 2005, my husband and I had a little “lover’s quarrel”. The topic? Hmm… When I go back to Bacolod City, where will I stay? With my parents or with his parents? Big question. Hard to answer. Joey was hired to work in China and with that, we have decided we both needed to leave Laguna. Yes, he’s the one going to China but I too need to resign, because I was pregnant with our first baby. All our families are in Bacolod so for my safety and his peace of mind, somebody has to make sure I’ll be fine while he’s away. Now the hardest decision we needed to settle on was “WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF MARICAR? MARICAR’S PARENTS OR JOEY’S PARENTS?” Had I not been pregnant that time, I would have … Continue reading

1 Month to GO!

If you’re part of the family and close friends, you know that the kids and I have been in Bacolod since Chinese New Year last year. So that’s more than a year of “away” from my hubby and their papa Joey. Literally speaking, it’s 1 month to go… that is, 1 month to GO to China. The thought of leaving gives me mixed emotions – happy and sad at the same time. HAPPY TO GO – mainly because our family will be together day in and day out. My husband will definitely enjoy time with our kids, especially time with his little princess, as it is Meimei’s first time to join us there. Sure enough he’s also looking forward to coming home, sleep, and wake up with his lovely wife beside him (*wink*). The kids will take pleasure in the strong arms of their dad when he carries them. Oh … Continue reading

7 YEARS AND COUNTING…

The very first time I learned about blogging was in Friendster… However, when my family moved to China, friendster blog was banned so there was no way for me to update that blog. But here’s something I wrote last June 11, 2007 as my way of HONORING THE MAN I MARRIED 7 years ago… The ones in RED FONT are new additions I dedicate this blog to the man I want to grow old with…MY JOEY. It’s time the whole world knows how much he means to me… These words were my testimonial in his friendster account, but this time, I’ll give the details: MY langga… calling somebody “langga” in our local dialect means that you love that person, and YES, I LOVE JOEY. MY faithful best friend… faithful because for the past years we’ve been physically away from each other, he remained TRUE to me. I asked him the other … Continue reading

Quality Time is better than Quantity Time???

Several nights back, my husband and I had one of the many wonderful chats about life… Even if he’s far (he’s in China while I’m in the Philippines), he is still someone I consider my best friend. I can share with him everything and anything at all. A lot of times I know he’s tired and exhausted but when we chat and I need someone to share my heart out, he tries his best to comfort me. The latest incident was a few nights ago when I felt so guilty of being so busy with something that is good, yet I felt it’s taking me away from the kids so in turn, it’s starting to become bad. I discussed this topic with my husband and here’s what he told me: ok.  i know that it’s hard for you there.  just make sure may outlet ka. [4/6/2010 12:38:38 AM] *LANGGA KO*: … Continue reading

CHAPTER 1: MY EYES ARE YELLOW!

It was a sunny Wednesday (March 19, 2008) morning, EJ and I were preparing – EJ for school and I for work. As part of my preparation, I checked my eyebrows and decided to pluck some excess hair when suddenly I noticed MY EYES WERE YELLOW! I looked closer and closer but the closer I looked, the more I saw that it was yellow. So I called Joey and told him I need to go to the hospital to have a check up. I sent EJ to school first then off I went to the hospital with 2 friends – Imee (Filipina) and Cathy (Chinese) – both are English teachers like me. I was told to have my blood tests, urinalysis and ultrasound. If you’re wondering how it was – well here are some things that are different from what we usually do in the Philippines: 1. BLOOD TEST – … Continue reading

A TEACHER’S CALL

It’s been quiet a while since I updated my blog. Why? It’s because I’ve been really busy with taking care of my son, my husband, myself and my work. Yes, my work. By profession I’m an Engineer but for now, I’m an English teacher to the Chinese. When I left IMI in 2005, my husband and I decided that I won’t work as an Engineer anymore because being one will take so much of my time. I’ve been there for almost 6 years and I know the life! I thought to myself, I won’t go back to the manufacturing world because it’s just too demanding! Not when my baby is still very young. But you see, in my blog – NOT ABOUT ME – I wrote how I opened my life to God’s leading. Here are some lines I wrote in that blog: “God knows what’s best, and I believe … Continue reading

When Thunders Roar…

July 4th around 4pm, Joey called me and said these words: YOUR APPLICATION FOR WORK PERMIT WAS DENIED. The very first thing that came out of my mouth was, WHY?! Then he told me it was due to technical reasons. Then he asked me to ask help from some of the people we know because he was very busy at work. The moment I put down the phone, tears began to roll down my cheeks… I immediately remembered that our request for extension will expire 21st of July, which was 2 days from EJ’s birthday. If my work permit will not be approved, then we would have to go back to the Philippines. I hugged EJ and prayed, LORD, DON’T TAKE AWAY HIS FATHER FROM HIM ON HIS BIRTHDAY. Then I looked EJ in the eyes and told him, DON’T WORRY BABY, GOD WILL MAKE SURE, YOU AND PAPA WILL … Continue reading

NOT ABOUT ME…

It was around 6:00pm yesterday while I was washing EJ’s bottle, when I saw the Chinese in their long sleeves and tie (men) and high-heeled shoes (women) walking home from work. Then suddenly a thought came into my mind… “Good for them, their day’s already over…Here I am, still working – as a full time homemaker, working 24 / 7.” Then I asked myself, “Is this really the kind of life I want?” To my surprise, that familiar still small voice whispered inside of me with these lines, “Up to this point, do you still think it’s all about YOU? Do you still think you matter more than what you’re purposed to do? Is it what you want that really matters or is it what you will leave behind? Those lines woke me up and reminded me that it’s not about me but it’s what I’m called to do, what … Continue reading
