Missing EJ

Dear Elisha, Today you are 5 years, 4 months and 13 days old to be exact. You went to school with your papa on a rainy day. Temperature outside is about 10 degrees but I let you wear the jacket that auntie Lily gave you (it’s very warm) because tonight, the temperature might drop to 3 degrees. You were coughing a bit and I guess your body’s reacting to the changing season – from Autumn to Winter. As usual, you have your juice with Super C in your bag. While I was preparing you for school, something was going on in my heart already… I realized you were just a kid and you needed so much love and care… but sometimes, I expect you to behave like an adult… So when you left, tears rolled down my cheeks and I want to write this down so you get to read … Continue reading

EJ’s Pre-School Life

Dear Elisha, The first time we went to China was when you were 23 months and by the time you reached 2 years old, you were already in school. Kid Castle was your very first school which taught English to local Chinese kids. I put you there so that you can adjust to a Chinese school environment and yet when you go looking for “Mama” in English, your teachers can attend to you because they understand you. You were only there for the summer and when September 2007 came, Chinese school year opened and you were enrolled in our village’s kindergarten, Jindu Kindergarted. In both schools, you cried very hard each time I left you with your teachers for the first few weeks. I cried too son. It was heart breaking for me to leave you in your teacher’s care, however, it was something that needed to be done. Sometimes I would watch you from … Continue reading

HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY ELISHA JOEY

Dear Elisha, For my birthday letter for you, I want to share with you how you came into this world… Ooops, not really the details of HOW you were made, but just a background of the things that took place before, during and after your birth. So read on ok? It was in the year 2002 when in my prayer time a little voice whispered to me that my first born will be a boy and that his name shall be ELISHA JOEY. Elisha is a prophet in the Old Testament and his name also signifies double portion anointing. Joey is obviously from your papa’s name. So in short, your name means double portion of your papa, but of course, with a touch of me When your pa and I got married in 2003, we decided to have a baby after we have taken some time to enjoy our being couple … Continue reading

BLUE and HAPPY day :)

It was a one truly fine day spent with both the Lo’s and the Boyero’s… It was Meimei’s birthday last April 16 but we had it celebrated at Palmas Del Mar today mainly because for my 2 kids (EJ and Meimei), swimming seem to be the love of their lives! Whenever they see a swimming pool, the first thing that comes to their minds is, DIVE DIVE DIVE and DIVE! Even if it’s just in the pictures or videos. I decided to have a family pool party so everyone can just enjoy and exercise Not everybody swam but I appreciate the fact that those who didn’t stayed until those who did finished up… I thought that after the picture taking in the function room and at the pool area, those who didn’t swim would go back home. But I was surprised to see the dry group waiting for the wet … Continue reading

AWARD WINNING KID

Dear Elisha, I am writing this letter with tears in my eyes because as I look at you while you’re sound asleep, I realize that you are still a “baby”, but sometimes, I forget that and expect you to act like an adult. You’re only 4 years old and 8 months to be exact and even if at  times you DO talk like a grown  up, you’re still just a little boy who wants to run and play… Today you received several awards namely: GOLD in Chinese with Best in Math, Best in Language, Best in Social Studies and Best in Bible. SILVER in English with Best in English award. In the past, it was your A-ma who gave you your Chinese ribbons and I gave your English ribbons. But today it was I and Angkong who were there…  As I looked at you on stage, I saw not really much of the … Continue reading

A 4 Year Old’s Prayer

Dear Elisha, I’ve been meaning to write you about your prayer times because there had been a lot of instances that you amazed me with your prayers, the ones that you say on your own… Here’s one that’s very fresh that you uttered before you slept this evening (Dec. 2, 2009): Dear God our Father, Thank you for blessing our friends and family. Thank you for our ROCKING CHAIR. Thank you that tomorrow I can go to school and make my… (you paused and asked me – Mama, what will we make tomorrow in my science class, I forgot – so I had to remind you that you’ll make a clay dough) … my clay dough. Thank you for blessing others. In Jesus name, Amen. I won’t and can’t enumerate everything but just to give you an idea of what you prayed for as a 4 year old boy, read on  :) … for Jose Rizal … Continue reading

CHRISTMAS IN CHINA

Dear Elisha, I was browsing through some of our pictures in China when I saw our Christmas 2008 photos. OUR Christmas means including Meimei because she was already in my tummy. I bet she felt the joy and heard the laughter those evenings we had our Christmas parties with friends and with our OFW families in Jiaxing :) Not to mention dancing to the beat of the happy songs! To let you see the different events that took place in the different parties we went to, here are some of the pictures and a little description of what transpired. FOREIGNERS CHRISTMAS PARTY Every year, Speedy Tech (IMI-Jiaxing) sends representatives to this event and last year, your papa was chosen to represent the company in this gathering. The picture contains those who were seated with us that night as well as some of the special numbers presented to entertain the guests. After dinner, we went to Starbucks to meet … Continue reading

Quality Time with my Kiddo

As a mother, it is my heart’s desire to be the best that I can be which I believe is a normal thing. So I make sure I spend time with my kids. However, at sometimes, it’s hard to spend that quality time with one and not reject the other. Know what I mean? Especially that Meimei (my 2nd child) has a special need – and that is taking care of her colostomy and her dilations., sometimes I can’t help but “reject” some of Elisha’s (my first born) requests. So inorder to assure my son that I do love him and want to spend time with him, I have this DATE with him. Our “Date Day” is scheduled every Saturday afternoon after his children’s choir practice in church. Most of the time we go to the mall to do 2 things: (1) arcade to play basketball and (2) eat whatever … Continue reading

Dating My Prince

Elisha, my first born, was almost 4 years old when his sister was born. At his age, he still needs a lot of attention because he is only a preschooler. He still needs to be taken cared of and he still wants to be taken cared of. Although he dislikes being called a baby, I still see him as one So since the day I knew I was pregnant, I have thought of creative ideas how not to make him feel jealous and to assure him that he is still loved. Before Meimei (his sister) came out, I already asked family members not to tease EJ that he’s not loved anymore because a new baby is coming knowing that that kind of joke (bad joke actually) will open the door to jealousy or worse, will cause EJ to hate her sister. I have always been careful not to make him feel rejected and not … Continue reading

EJ’s ACCIDENT

Dear Elisha, It’s been 3 days since your accident – you hit your head on the edge of the of the bench while you were playing with your classmates which resulted to an injury on your left eyebrow and swelling on the left side of your face. I keep recallingthe scene where the lady guard (Manang Josie) was carrying you and running from the preschool department all the way to the clinic… I keep hearing your excruciating cry… I keep seeing the blood that covered your face and your uniform when I finally confirmed that it was you Manang Josie brought to the clinic… I keep seeing the the time 4:02pm in the car as I parked outside your school because seconds after that, the accident happened… I keep wondering if arriving earlier would’ve prevented the accident…I keep feeling how your body trembled when nurse Marizet was cleaning your wound, teacher Glazeus was removing the … Continue reading

LOVE LETTERS TO E.J.

My husband and I agreed that from time to time, we will write letters to our children so that someday, they have something to guide and encourage them when they need it. We can’t and we won’t be with them all the time, but with these letters, it’s as if we’re beside them. From these letters they’ll know how much we love them, what we value the most, what we pray for, what our principles are, who we are and what we, as parents, hope to impart to them that they too can impart to their children. We will categorize these types of blogs as LOVE LETTERS TO E.J. because truly, all our letters will be written because we love them. All our children have the initial E.J. Elisha Joey (Elisha or EJ) our son and Elizabeth Joy (Meimei) our daughter. If a third child comes, for sure his or her initial will still be E.J. … Continue reading

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR GIFT?

SHE WRITES: We’re still in the spirit of the gift giving season so this post is about memorable gifts…either gift that you have received or you have given to someone. It could be the most expensive or the cheapest – doesn’t matter, as long as when you think of gifts, you remember that particular thing. For my case, I remember a white dress that “Santa” gave me when I was a child. That was the last Christmas I believed in Santa because my mom made a comment that revealed Santa’s identity ) I can still remember what she said… “How did you manage to get the perfect fit?” then I saw my papa’s face turned RED as he silenced my mom but saw me looking at them! hihi… He then just gave me a hug and said “Don’t tell your brothers, ok?” I agreed so the following Christmas, I went … Continue reading

HOW WILL YOU CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS?

SHE WRITES:As you know, we are here in China and this is not a Christian nation… But that won’t stop us from celebrating the season. Tonight we will have a gathering of all the Filipinos here in our place – probably just about 20 people – and we will have exchange gifts and singing since there’s a regular Filipino band in that place. Tomorrow we will have our Christmas Party here at home – 7 of us – that is with our friends whom we consider extended family. We have kris kringle and some games that I have planned out. We will just have simple food and celebration but I’m sure it’ll turn out wonderful because the bottom line is, we meet, talk and just be together. Although we miss Christmas in the Philippines, we have managed to have a “home away from home” here in China. Of course, with … Continue reading

EVER BELIEVED IN SANTA?

SHE WRITES:Waking up every December 25th was one of the most exciting days of my life when I was 9 years old and younger. I would run to my gifts and open them with big ahhhs and ooohs in disbelief that Santa passed by and gave me (and my siblings) those gifts! When I found out that Mr. Santa was mom and dad, I didn’t get disappointed but rather grateful that even if we didn’t have much money, there wasn’t a Christmas morn where we woke up with no gifts. When my siblings and I were all grown up, I asked my dad why they kept doing that “Santa” thingy even if we were hard up financially. He told me something that made it all the more special… Papa said seeing the JOY in our faces, with those wide eyes as we opened the gifts made their efforts all worth … Continue reading

DO YOU LIKE YOUR NAME?

SHE WRITES:Yes I do – I like all my names. My real name is Elizabeth Rose, my nickname is Maricar and my Chinese name is Meili. Different groups call me differently – my classmates call me by my real name; my family, relatives, church and workmates call me by my nickname; and in the blogging world and to some Chinese friends I use my Chinese name (because they can’t pronounce my other names). However, I have friends who literally despise the sound of their real names so they came up with another one for people around to use when referring to them and the only time they use their real names is when they need to sign legal papers or documents. I also came across this site What Not to Name Your Baby and the blogger lists down some of the unheard names – at least for me. Reading his … Continue reading

Never Been Unloved

I came across this video (from youtube) when I was looking for some songs for our home church and since then, this has become one of my favorites. I truly believe that we may be a lot of things…but as Christians, we have never been unloved. A simple story of how secured my son is of my love for him. I asked him last night, “Baby, what makes mama sad?” He replied, “When I don’t listen… but you still love me mama.” It made me smile knowing that at the age of 3, he is just so secured that no matter what he does, I will always love him. Before we sleep at night we, as a family, give each other goodnight hugs, kisses and I love you’s. But when EJ’s on his bed, I will whisper, “I will always love you baby.” With his eyes closed he will respond, … Continue reading

DO YOU LIKE WINTER?

SHE WRITES: I’ll go straight to the point, I dread winter =( It’s too cold for me. Taking a bath / shower is a struggle, really! And to think of the time we use putting on tons of lotion and moisturizers to keep our skin hydrated. The layers of clothes we have to consider putting on myself and my son. I don’t know if it’s because I was raised in a country (The Philippines) with no winter feeling at all, or it’s really a dreaded season by most people. My son and I got sick because I think our bodies are adjusting to the super dry and extremely cold season. But to be fair to this time of the year, I’ll write 2 things I like in winter: 1. the SNOW – last winter was our first time to experience snow and I admit it was FUN playing with my … Continue reading

DOES THE FIRST BORN LOOK LIKE MOM OR DAD?

SHE WRITES: I’ve read once in an article that most first borns have the looks of their father, but the brain of their mothers…hmm… But I don’t know if this is true or false. I’m not really sure if our eldest brother looks like our mom or dad. My son (Elisha Joey) looks more like his dad as what most people say. As to the brain, my son is very smart so I can accept that his brain is more like mine (just don’t tell his dad ok? hihi). My brother in law looks more like my mother in law’s dad. My sister in law looks like her dad. This leaves me wondering if first borns around the globe look more like mom or dad. =) How about in your family? Does the first born look like mom or dad? Wheter single or married, I believe there’s a first born … Continue reading
