IF I COULD…

Here’s a song that’s so close to my heart… For EJ and my soon to be born baby. i love you! IF I COULD(lyrics from lyricsmode) If I CouldI’d protect you from the sadness in your eyesGive you courage in a world of compromiseYes I wouldIf I could I would teach you all the things I’ve never learnedAnd I’d help you cross the bridges that I’ve burnedYes I wouldIf I could I would try to shield your innocence from timeBut the part of life I gave you isn’t mineI’ve watched you growSo I could let you goIf I could I would help you make it through the hungry yearsBut I know that I can never cry your tearsBut I wouldIf I could If I live in a time and place where you don’t wanna beYou don’t have to walk along this road with meMy yesterday won’t have to be your … Continue reading

Never Been Unloved

I came across this video (from youtube) when I was looking for some songs for our home church and since then, this has become one of my favorites. I truly believe that we may be a lot of things…but as Christians, we have never been unloved. A simple story of how secured my son is of my love for him. I asked him last night, “Baby, what makes mama sad?” He replied, “When I don’t listen… but you still love me mama.” It made me smile knowing that at the age of 3, he is just so secured that no matter what he does, I will always love him. Before we sleep at night we, as a family, give each other goodnight hugs, kisses and I love you’s. But when EJ’s on his bed, I will whisper, “I will always love you baby.” With his eyes closed he will respond, … Continue reading

IS MY SACRIFICE LIVING?

Written: Feb. 12, 2008Ever since I became a Christian, one of the closest stories in my heart is the story of Abraham offering Isaac as a living sacrifice. Several times have I been through such experience, but never have I thought I will be placed in such a situation – of literally offering my very own son to the Lord. It all started with my in-laws asking us if we could leave EJ for vacation here in Bacolod from February until we come back again in May. At first it sounded like a joke, the family was just teasing me because they know I wouldn’t say YES. Partly I wanted to give in to Joey’s parents request because from the start, EJ has always brought so much joy to mama, papa and to the rest of the family. Besides, I know that he will be very well taken cared of … Continue reading

IS IT APPROPRIATE TO TALK ABOUT DEATH?

SHE WRITES: Last week, my husband and our friends got to chat about insurances. It then lead to the topic that his sister’s husband ensured himself a great amount of money to make sure incase he leaves earth someday, his wife and daughter won’t live penny less. He told that they (his sister and her hubby) have plans already – like if he dies, she’ll get the money, pay all the debt, sell their business so she and the kid can just live with the interest of the money from the bank. Our friend’s sister is a fulltime homemaker and the moment her husband goes, she will absolutely be crippled when it comes to handling the business because her hubby does everything. Another sister of his who’s actually single but earns a significant amount in an MLM has already written somewhat like a transfer of finances – distributing her income … Continue reading

DID YOU / WILL YOU MARRY YOUR BEST FRIEND?

SHE WRITES: My brother fell inlove with his best friend back when he was in his teens, but he never had the chance to tell her how he felt, up to this day. The reason? He was afraid of losing the friendship because he feared the thought: “What if she didn’t have the same feelings for me? Then I would lose her forever…” So he never tried, not then, not ever. One of my girl friends almost lost her sanity when her best friend of 10 years got married to his girlfriend of several months. She thought it wasn’t fair. Sounds like My Best Friend’s Wedding movie huh? But it’s true…However, I married my best friend. It was tough at the beginning, the transition from being best friends to lovers, but it was wonderful having to marry someone you know so well and who knows me really deep too. Our … Continue reading

DO YOU LIKE WINTER?

SHE WRITES: I’ll go straight to the point, I dread winter =( It’s too cold for me. Taking a bath / shower is a struggle, really! And to think of the time we use putting on tons of lotion and moisturizers to keep our skin hydrated. The layers of clothes we have to consider putting on myself and my son. I don’t know if it’s because I was raised in a country (The Philippines) with no winter feeling at all, or it’s really a dreaded season by most people. My son and I got sick because I think our bodies are adjusting to the super dry and extremely cold season. But to be fair to this time of the year, I’ll write 2 things I like in winter: 1. the SNOW – last winter was our first time to experience snow and I admit it was FUN playing with my … Continue reading

LOYALTY TO YOUR FRIEND OR COUNTRY?

SHE WRITES: Two weeks ago, my husband and I watched The Unit on DVD. If you’re familiar with The Unit, these group of men and their wives are loyal to their country and they answer to the President directly. The last episode we saw had an interesting question that kept me wondering: If you were to choose between loyalty to your friend and your country, which will you choose? You can’t choose both because your life long friend is suspected to be doing an illegal thing which is subject to lifetime imprisonment. Or your best friend who happens to be a politician, squanders the public’s money for his personal gains…I treasure friendships so much but I am also for standing for what’s right… I will try my best to convince my friend to turn away from his illegal activities, but if he won’t =( I don’t know if I will … Continue reading

DO YOU WANT TO GET RICH?

SHE WRITES: Ooops, this is not a scam. I’m not here to promote a get rich quick concept. I simply just want to know if you want to or not =D Most people would probably say yes, but I know someone who doesn’t want to. She actually came from a wealthy family but she blames her family’s wealth for the chaos in their household. Her brothers go their separate ways because each one has a car, her parents go their separate ways as well because they’re too busy doing their thing and she’s left all alone at home most of the time. This topic was raised in one of our discussions and she said that someday, when she has her own family, she wouldn’t want to get rich… Inspite this story, I want to get rich. I want to help my parents pay off their debt, I want all my … Continue reading

THE SOURCE OF MY RESOURCES

“ Goer… Sender…Intercessor “ these were the three roles given by Pastor Joebert Ramos (Senior Pastor of His Life Ministries) way back when I was a 3rd year university student, when he gave his altar call. I felt a tug in my heart to stand up – as a SENDER. So strong that my heart beat went faster and there was nothing I can do, but obey. So there I was, I stood committing myself as a sender to fulfill the great commission. While I was standing up, I asked God how can I be a sender when I didn’t even have enough money for my education – I would often write promissory notes every time it was enrollment or examinations time; not enough money for my allowance – I had to sell goods to make sure I have money for my next day’s transportation and money to pay for … Continue reading

WHERE DO YOU PLACE YOUR COMPUTER?

SHE WRITES: My sister-in-law poshpost suggested this topic because I think her computer is situated in a weird location – dining area. hihi… But she said she likes it there because her room is really hot. She just likes it there =D As for me, my computer is in my bedroom. I have a desktop with a 19″ monitor so there are times my husband and I watch movies in the comforts of our room. There are nights we download stuff from the net and we leave it running overnight. But sometimes in the middle of the night, my husband wakes up to check if the downloading’s done. If it is, he turns the computer off and goes back to sleep – that way we don’t waste electricity. =D How about you? Where do you place your computer? A. BedroomB. DO YOU HAVE TOPICS YOU WANT US TO DISCUSS?

SHE WRITES: Today, my blog is 7 days old and I just want to take this time to say THANK YOU to all of you for the warm welcome you’ve given me. As a new blogger, it is so encouraging to read your thoughts and see you following my blog. You bet I’ve learned a lot and not a day passed that I haven’t shared your responses with my husband =D Unfortunately he didn’t agree that my son’s brain is like mine, hihi. I also learned that in the Philippines, we use the term “let’s take a bath” but for most of you, you say shower – so I guess this brought confusion to some – sorry for that. I was also able to help a friend start his own blog and he’s very happy with blogging too. This past week was truly wonderful and I hope I can gain … Continue reading

DOES THE FIRST BORN LOOK LIKE MOM OR DAD?

SHE WRITES: I’ve read once in an article that most first borns have the looks of their father, but the brain of their mothers…hmm… But I don’t know if this is true or false. I’m not really sure if our eldest brother looks like our mom or dad. My son (Elisha Joey) looks more like his dad as what most people say. As to the brain, my son is very smart so I can accept that his brain is more like mine (just don’t tell his dad ok? hihi). My brother in law looks more like my mother in law’s dad. My sister in law looks like her dad. This leaves me wondering if first borns around the globe look more like mom or dad. =) How about in your family? Does the first born look like mom or dad? Wheter single or married, I believe there’s a first born … Continue reading

R U FOR CONVENIENCE OR PRACTICALITY?

SHE WRITES: There are 2 kinds of train going to Shanghai from our place, the fast train and the regular train. The regular train takes an hour, people inside are smoking, very crowded but costs only 13RMB (about US$2). The fast train however takes 45 minutes, people are not smoking, not so crowded as each one has a reserved seat but cost 35RMB (approximately US$5). My husband prefers the regular train because the time difference is not that big and he’s more concerned of the cost. So that qualifies him for the practicality side. On the other hand, my friend Cathy prefers the fast train because it’s more convenient – she can sit well and it’s really clean. There was even a time that she paid for our ticket just so we all ride the fast train and not the regular train. I’m more of an in-between person. Sometimes I’m … Continue reading

A Beautiful Mother Poem

MOTHER (thanks to marriagemarkers for this award) This is a truly BEAUTIFUL piece. Please read this at a slow pace, digesting every word and in leisure…Do not hurry….this is a treasure… For those lucky to still be blessed with your Mom,this is beautiful. For those of us who aren’t,this is even more beautiful. For those who are moms, you’ll love this. The young mother set her footon the path of life.’Is this the long way?’ she asked. And the guide said: ‘Yes,and the way is hardAnd you will be old beforeyou reach the end of it..But the end will be betterthan the beginning.’ But the young mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years. So she played with her children, and gathered flowers for them along the way,and bathed them in the clear streams;and the sun shone on them, and the young Mother cried, ‘Nothing will ever be lovelier than this.’ … Continue reading

ARE YOU A NIGHT OR A DAY PERSON?

SHE WRITES: My mother-in-law used to tell me that instead of staying up late at night and waking up late the next day, I should sleep early and wake up early. Staying up late at night (or until early morning) isn’t a problem for me but waking up early is a real struggle, especially if it’s cold or raining! I also like working at night because I think it’s more peaceful so I can focus on what I’m doing more. Although I’ve read that it’s healthy to sleep early or at least before 11pm, it’s still something I have to force myself to do. Even if I can function well during the day, I still believe I am a night person because of the reasons i stated =D. How about you? Are you a night or day person?A. nightB. dayC. others (pls. specify) YOU WRITE: (please read comments portion for … Continue reading

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TAKE A BATH?

SHE WRITES: When I was in the Philippines, I took a bath anytime I wanted or needed one. It didn’t matter if the sun was up or down. All that mattered was if I think I needed one, I’ll just go ahead and take a bath. When I was pregnant, I even took a bath 3 times a day in the summer! When I came to China last year, I learned that most (if not all) Chinese takes a bath at night. When they wake up the next morning, they just brush their teeth, wash their face and rush through the day. Most Filipinos however take a bath in the morning but before we retire at night, we have half baths (washing the body but not the hair). This difference raised an argument between my husband and his co-worker… Our Chinese friends think bath time at night is BEST so … Continue reading

STAY OPEN…

This morning I watched Joel Osteen’s preaching and his topic was “Trust God to do it HIS WAY”. All throughout his message, he kept repeating 2 words, STAY OPEN.It got me reflecting on my very own life, and here’s what I’ve realized. In 1994, I was given an option to take a higher scholarship grant if I would major in Education, rather than Engineering. I didn’t take the offer mainly because I NEVER WANTED TO BE A TEACHER, so I thought. But God slowly changed my heart for years. He allowed me to lead Bible studies, worked in companies where I had to teach, lead me to teaching preschoolers then to the Koreans. Little did I know that He’s been preparing me for a teaching Job here in China. When I was in my college years, I thought, I didn’t want to work away from home because I don’t think … Continue reading
